Hello, my name is Derrick David Stinson.
I'm running in the 2008 Election for Commissioner of the Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
I am writing to you to introduce myself and seek your support for my candidacy for Commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
I am currently an 18 year veteran of the MWRD and serve in an Operational Management position. Given my many years of experience I believe that I have the institutional knowledge to be an effective Commissioner and will seek to increase the level of diversity within the District’s workforce as well as in the District’s contracting activities. In addition to my service at the MWRD, I am also a retired United States Air Force Veteran retiring from the Illinois Air National Guard with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, Retired.
My commitment to public service extends beyond government and into community based initiatives. As Founder and President of Matthew House, Inc, I have helped to provide supportive services and training to Chicago’s homeless community. I am an active member and Deacon of the Progressive Community Center, the Peoples Church where I served in various leadership roles including our anti-gang and anti-drug initiative. I am a Past District Commander of the American Legion, Department of Illinois and served on various local, state and national Committees and Commissions, recently I was appointed Vice Chairman of the National and Homeland Security Commission of the American Legion; the world’s oldest and largest War Veterans organization, in existence since 1919.
Given that we share the same values of diversity and inclusion as well as an interest in transforming government and moving Cook County forward to bring accountability, diversity, and effective fiscal management to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, I am seeking your endorsement and support for my candidacy. If you are unable to formally endorse my campaign, I would appreciate some guidance from you as to individuals which you believe may be of assistance in my endeavor.
